To speak of olive oil is to speak of the origin of the peoples, the languages, and the cultures that flourished and spread throughout the basin of the Mare Nostrum<\/em>, from Damascus, Beirut, and Jerusalem to Crete and Rome, Catalonia and the olive groves of Ja\u00e9n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Hellenes and Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans cared for the vineyards and olive trees, tilling the land with the Roman plow, carrying in their swift ships driven by the wind the wine and the green gold across the length and breadth of the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Extra virgin olive oil, the perfume and essence of the Mediterranean diet, was the delight of the Greco-Roman gods. It is the energy that keeps the body fit and the heart strong and pure. For our gastronomic culture, it is the elixir of youth and the poetic soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I WAS BORN AND SAW THE LIGHT OF THE MEDITERRANEAN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I emerged naked from the furrows of the earth.
I ate bread with salt, and olive oil.
Semolina and garlic soup by the light of an oil lamp.
I grew up in a small house of stone, lime, and sand.
I was born and saw the light of the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SONG OF LOVE AND FIDELITY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And before man,
the olive tree was the origin
and the source of life.
